National Development Agency Welcomes Mr. Thabani Buthelezi as New Acting Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Buthelezi has been appointed to lead the NDA at a pivotal time as the agency intensifies its efforts toward transformative social development. His extensive expertise and commitment to social and economic progress make him an ideal leader to guide the NDA in the implementation of the turnaround strategy, achieving its strategic and performance objectives.
We are delighted to welcome Mr. Buthelezi into the NDA family, said Ms Nozabelo Ruth Bhengu (NDA Board Chairperson). With his deep understanding of South Africa social challenges and his experience in pioneering strategic programmes and policy, we are confident that his leadership will elevate our mission to impact and uplift communities.
Mr. Buthelezi, who holds a Master degree in Population and Development Studies, has been a key figure at the Department of Social Development (DSD) since 2006, where he served as Chief Director of Monitoring & Evaluation and recently as Acting Deputy Director-General: Strategy and Organisational Transformation. His leadership has been instrumental in advancing crucial initiatives, including the development of the National Evaluation Policy Framework and a surveillance system for monitoring vulnerable children.
He has a proven record of driving impactful social initiatives, evidenced by his role in evaluating the Child Support Grant and developing systems to support maternal orphans. Mr Buthelezi is widely respected for his commitment to advancing social policy research, having authored numerous publications on labour economics and social protection.
