MINISTER TOLASHE LEADS INTEGRATED SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT PORTFOLIO OUTREACH IN VRYBURG
Minister of Social Development, Ms Sisisi Tolashe, will, as part of the Social Development Month activities, lead an integrated portfolio outreach in the Naledi Local Municipality in Vryburg, North West, on Friday, 31 October 2025. The outreach forms part of Minister Tolashe's ongoing efforts to bring the full range of social development services closer to communities. It is intended to ensure that residents have direct access to information and support offered through the Department of Social Development, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), and the National Development Agency (NDA)
Vryburg continues to face a range of social challenges, including high crime rates, substance misuse, teenage and unplanned pregnancies, HIV and AIDS infections, as well as child and elder abuse. Many residents struggle to access social services due to a lack of vital registration documents.
Minister Tolashe will be joined by the North West MEC for Social Development, Ms Sussana Dantjie, the Executive Mayor of the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality, Councillor Motseokae Maje, representatives from local government, the Chief Executive Officer of SASSA, Mr Themba Matlou, and the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the NDA, Ms Raphaahle Ramokgopa, among others.
The Minister’s visit will offer a comprehensive portfolio of social development services to the community of Huhudi and surrounding areas, including community engagements on social welfare programmes, substance misuse prevention, and gender-based violence interventions. Services such as social grant applications, COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) support, social grant reviews, and other essential government services will also be available to the public.
The outreach aims to address community challenges by providing integrated services, fostering meaningful engagement, and promoting sustainable livelihoods to reduce dependence on social grants as the main source of income.
This Ministerial Outreach Programme, under the banner of the Integrated Community Registration Outreach Programme, seeks to assess whether the services provided align with government’s District Development Model (DDM). The model promotes people-driven and community-centred interventions that strengthen collaboration between spheres of government and the people they serve.
On the day, community members will also access services from other government departments such as Home Affairs and Health. They will have the opportunity to interact directly with Minister Tolashe on issues affecting their daily lives.
