On Friday, 13 May 2022, In Pinetown Kwa-Zulu Natal, Minister of Social Development, Ms Lindiwe Zulu visited Silokotho Primary Cooperative in Pinetown as part of her Budget Vote 2022 activities. The Minister expressed her gratitude to the cooperative in being an example of the objective of government funding for sustainable programmes.

North West - As part of her pre-Presidential Imbizo activities, Minister of Social Development, Ms Minister Lindiwe Zulu, visited Bogela Bontle in the Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality, on Friday 11 March 2022. She highlighted the need to ensure that local cooperatives such as Bogela Bontle Beadwork Cooperative are capacitated and receive the necessary funding to meet local market demands.

THE APPOINTMENT OF CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANISATIONS (CSOs) TO IMPLEMENT A VOLUNTEER PROGRAMME IN ALL PROVINCES ON BEHALF OF THE NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AGENCY (NDA) OVER A PERIOD OF SIX MONTHS
The National Development Agency (NDA) developed and submitted a project proposal to the National Treasury to access funding from the Presidential Employment Stimulus Package. The proposal focusses on the CSOs Volunteer Programme, which is a hallmark of NDA’s Covid-19 response plan aimed at combating the effects of Covid-19 on poor communities. The National Treasury approved the proposal and granted the NDA R30 million allocation to extend implementation of the CSOs Volunteer Programme until March 2022.

Gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) is a profound and widespread problem in South African communities, impacting on almost every aspect of life. GBVF (which disproportionately affects women and girls) is systemically and deeply entrenched in institutions, cultures and traditions in South Africa. Population-based surveys show very high levels of intimate partner violence (IPV) and non-partner sexual violence (SV) in particular, with IPV being the most common form of violence against women.

Requests for proposals for CARA
The Interim Steering Committee on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide is tasked with the responsibility to coordinate the implementation of the Emergency Response Action Plan (ERAP). The Department of Social Development (DSD) as a lead department for the Victim Empowerment Programme (VEP) through ERAP has identified strengthening of CSOs that provide services to survivors and victims of gender based violence as one of the interventions to be implemented through the Programme.
